One such person is Marcy Gutierrez, Production Leader at our La Grange facility. More than just a leader, she is a mentor and a source of inspiration within the organization. Recently, Marcy shared her remarkable journey, highlighting the experiences that shaped her career and leadership approach.

What led you to pursue a career in production leadership?

I had always been drawn to the idea of helping others and being part of a team. Before Grayhill, I was working as a cosmetologist, running a busy salon, and balancing the challenges of motherhood. It wasn’t always easy, but the fast-paced environment taught me how to stay organized and manage a diverse group of people. After ten years in the beauty industry, I realized I wanted something different. A temporary role at Grayhill came at just the right moment, and I thought, "Let’s give this a shot." 

What surprised you the most when you transitioned to Grayhill?

The biggest surprise was how much of my experience in the beauty industry applied to production. In the salon, I was constantly connecting with people, managing schedules, and solving problems on the fly. When I came to Grayhill, I found that the same skills were crucial on the production floor. The key was understanding people—what motivates them, how to support them, and how to guide them toward success.

What has your journey taught you about leadership?

Leadership, to me, is all about empathy and communication. When I moved into a leadership role, I realized my job wasn’t just about overseeing production; it was about helping others grow. I became the link between management and floor workers, ensuring that everyone had the resources and support they needed to succeed. It’s about creating an environment where people feel heard and valued. The challenges we face are an opportunity to learn together and grow as a team. Every day is a new lesson, and that’s what keeps me motivated.
